About Word Chain
Word Chain is a fast-paced vocabulary game where each new word must begin with the last letter of the previous word. You have 8 seconds per word to keep the chain alive. Each correct link adds points based on word length; a broken chain (timeout or invalid word) ends the game. The longer your chain, the higher your score.
Word Chain trains rapid lexical access — the ability to quickly retrieve words that meet a specific constraint. This skill transfers directly to competitive word games where fast retrieval under pressure determines performance. It also builds awareness of word endings, since every answer must consider what letter the next player (or round) will inherit.
Strategy Tips
- Avoid ending on rare letters: words ending in Q, X, Z, or U are hard to follow. Prefer words ending in common letters like E, R, S, N, or T.
- Build a mental buffer: while typing one word, already be thinking of what letter it ends on and your next word.
- Know your E-starters: E is the most common ending letter — have a large mental list of E-words ready (EARTH, EAGLE, EARLY, EMPTY, EVERY).
